Ants are highly social insects that live in complex colonies. A queen's primary role involves egg-laying, predominantly producing worker ants. During a specific period annually, colonies generate winged virgin males and queens for reproductive purposes. These individuals participate in nuptial flights, engaging in aerial mating assemblies known as mating balls. Males from one colony typically mate with queens from other colonies, after which the males perish. Post-mating, newly fertilized queens shed their wings and seek suitable environments to establish new colonies.

This project aims to serve two primary objectives. First, to provide a means for scientists to utilize the timing and patterns of ant nuptial flights as indicators for monitoring environmental changes globally. Second, to promote a less intrusive method for collecting ant specimens, thereby reducing ecological disturbance.

To this end, we have developed AntNupTracker—a tool designed for reporting observed ant nuptial flights in the field. This application facilitates the creation of an open, publicly accessible database of nuptial flight records. Users can browse this database via the app or online platform or download data in various formats. Whether you are an amateur enthusiast or a professional myrmecologist, we encourage contributions that support biodiversity monitoring and citizen science.

 <li>Upload photographic evidence to enhance validation and identification accuracy</li>

<li>Access and review nuptial flight records submitted by other users</li>
<li>Apply filters to flight data based on genus, species, date, and additional parameters</li>
<li>Engage with the community by commenting on published flight records</li>
<li>Enable expert validation of submitted data by professional myrmecologists</li>
<li>Receive notifications related to specific ant species or flight occurrences</li>
